A reference laboratory for O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, the Athens Medical Laboratory (AML) also provides access to the public for a full range of laboratory services and general diagnostic imaging testing. AML was established in 1957 and is a collection site for DNA and drug testing.

 

The lab also performs laboratory testing house calls. Each year more than 300,000 laboratory tests are processed by AML. The lab maintains accreditation by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation and the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments. The technologists employed at AML are accredited by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
